Half Vast Ideas

Bill Garvin HVI

Military veterans probably remember the maxim that “Proper prior planning prevents p— poor performance.” Civilian applications were politically corrected down to “prior planning prevents poor performance.” There are other colloquialisms for caution such as “don’t let your mouth write a check that your body can’t cash” and don’t let your alligator mouth overload your hummingbird butt.” My favorite has to be “don’t take on vast projects with half-vast ideas.” Apparently, the Obama administration never heard or has chosen to ignore these maxims.

Of course, when you start with a flawed premise, there is very little room for success. How could any sane person possibly believe you can add thirty million people to the medical rolls, suffer a status quo or decrease in medical practitioners, mandate a plethora of additional benefits in every policy, and expect your insurance bill to decrease by $2,500 per family per year? Yet, that’s what President Obama promised and Democrats and the media swallowed it, hook, line and sinker. It was shoved down the throats of the remainder, the majority of citizens, who have never approved of Obamacare, who were satisfied with their own insurance, and were pleased with their medical care.

Bludgeoned, Bloodied, and Bowed

Bill Garvin BB&B

“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.” Joseph Goebbels, Nazi Propaganda Minister

Now that the government shutdown and world threatening crisis has temporarily ended, it’s time to take stock of what we have learned. First, if a president refuses to negotiate, refuses to make any concession, refuses to enact legislation that would protect the most vulnerable among us, it is principled. However, if the opposition offers compromise after compromise and concession after concession, they are obstructionists and the moral equivalent of al Qaeda and the Taliban.

When Republicans offer to fully fund the government in exchange for delaying the individual mandate of Obamacare for one year, they are at best anarchists and at worst racists. Ignore the fact that every poll shows the majority of Americans do not approve of Obamacare. Ignore the fact that Kathleen Sebelius and Health and Human Services spent three years and over $500 million to build a website that doesn’t work. Ignore the fact that seventy percent of Americans were happy with their health insurance. Ignore the fact that the president said we would have an average decrease in premium costs of $2,500 per year but we are facing continued increases in both premiums and deductibles with fewer options. Ignore the fact that the president said we could keep our doctors but that is not true for millions of Americans. Ignore the fact that the president unilaterally changes the law by carving out special treatment for his cronies and supporters. Ignore the fact that Congress does not have to live under the law they are imposing on others.

William L. Garvin: Obamacare is Unworkable, Unaffordable, and Unloved

In the pantheon of pathetic, political pontification, the Pelosi pronouncement “We have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it” is prominent. It was entirely predictable that a government health care leviathan, cobbled together in the dark of night behind closed doors, would turn out to be an incorrigible Frankenstein monster. Remember all the broken presidential promises? It was supposed to be “cost neutral” at $898 billion. Latest estimates are that it will cost $2.6 TRILLION over the next decade! On top of that, President Obama dictates an unconstitutional delay of the employer mandate that will cost an additional $12 billion next year alone.

Gene’s Nickle: Obama Care Repeal

I am convinced that Obama Care is an abomination. I have had this thought since it was working its way through Congress. Obama Care is and was a huge tax on every citizen of America. It laid the ground work for a systematic and progressive erosion of individual liberties and freedoms, and was the largest governmental power grab our nation has ever seen.

A large and sustained majority of the nation was and is opposed to the legislation. Yet with hard-nosed determination and procedural sleight of hand, the Democrat leadership in Congress foisted Obama Care on an incredulous citizenry.

In 2010, an irate electorate sent a cadre of Republican Congressmen and Senators to Washington DC. Many first time politicians won election merely by vowing to repeal Obama Care. These stalwarts have held their ground against further Socialist legislation. Unfortunately, they control only one half of one branch of government, and what they can actually accomplish is limited.

The Executive branch of government has demonstrated that the opinion of the populace is of little or no import. President Obama has abused the Executive order, and created positions and policies that are aimed at circumventing Congress. Instead of waiting for the outcome of the litigation of 27 states before the Supreme Court, he moved at a break-neck pace to implement the abomination that will be his legacy.

This tyrannical behavior of a few determined individuals is the reason that our founders created three separate yet equal branches of the government. So, 27 states and millions of Americans sought redress through our third branch of government, the courts. Millions of us were certain that the Supreme Court would finally show wisdom and overturn this egregious law. Alas, we were viscerally disappointed.

It is obvious that we can’t trust the greatest form of government yet devised to the Liberal wing of the Democrat Party. It is a stark reminder that the Democrat Party is no longer the political party of my parents, and that Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and Barrack Obama need to be fired.

Unfortunately, a political party will not learn any lesson unless it is deprived of two things: money and power. If they are deprived of enough seats at the table of power then they might just police their own leadership.

I am convinced that I need to do something different this election. I will not cast a single vote for any Democrat candidate. I realize that some competent candidates will suffer for my intransigence, but I see the Democrat Party as the conduit for this legislative abomination. I see this as the only vehicle available to us, because the Democrat leadership continues to ignore the American people and oppose the repeal of Obama Care.

The Supreme Court has made it abundantly clear that creating laws is the purview of Congress, and electing competent legislators is ours. The Democrat Party needs to be reprimanded, and this November you and I need to make sure that happens!

That’s my nickle

An observation on polling: Fill the line!

We are constantly bombarded with polling and jobs data. The mainstream media loves to cite polls that bolster the perception of Barack Obama and spin dismal jobs reports to dismiss them.

You can see the agenda that the mainstream media offers on a daily basis.

Gallup: Obama Now Leads Romney, 48% to 43%

CNN: Obama holds slight edge over Romney in swing states

WP: Jobs report unlikely to change election dynamic

I am firmly convinced that the mainstream media thinks we are complete idiots! What about the following news?

Daily Caller: 83 percent of doctors have considered quitting over Obamacare

Rasmussen: 80% Expect Repeal of Health Care Law If Romney Wins

Limbaugh: Has America Already Slipped Away?

Beck: This Is the Divider We All Feared

I could go on and on, but it would be pointless. The later articles do not come from the kook fringe, they come from what we listen to and read every day and conform to our own beliefs! Yet, while the mainstream media FAILED to vet Barack Obama in 2008 and cast aside dissenting opinion as “right-wing extremism”, they continue to provide cover for him by assuming that you, my fellow American patriots, are ignorant and therefore “right-wing extremists” if you disagree!

Don’t let the leftist element that is intent on taking over our country persuade you! This is an important election. Hold firm and fill the line!

UPDATE: While Romney has strong hand, Obama campaign plays its cards better

Rallying Cry or The Day We Died?

It’s taken me quite a while to digest yesterday’s Supreme Court ruling on Obamacare and I must admit that I still have indigestion. Try as I might, I am sorely troubled on so many different levels.

Last night, I had a talk with my 19 year-old son about the ruling after watching the Hannity Show. As you might imagine, he had no idea what had happened earlier in the day, which is a separate concern. Nonetheless, I explained the gist of the ruling to him and why it should and does matter. Even though he nodded in agreement with what I was saying, how do you convey to a teenager the absolute urgency that comes with this November’s election? While I know that we must vote with our future liberty in mind, to a teenager, that idea is an abstraction.

The slow creep of socialism and the subsequent, incremental losses of liberty seem hard to fathom if you don’t have the proper historical perspective. Sadly, too many Americans have been deprived of the knowledge of our exceptional history through either wanton indifference or a failed educational system that de-emphasizes that history….on purpose!

How can ANYONE that calls themselves an American accept the appalling consequence of one man’s interpretation of the United States Constitution that is so flagrantly wrong and so disastrously consequential? Chief Justice John Roberts’ interpretation of the individual mandate’s penalty provision as a tax is a seismic shift in the spirit of our Constitution and bastardizes its meaning. If the Chief Justice was interested in creating a legacy for himself, he has succeeded mightily. I can only hope that future generations of Americans will develop the tradition of spitting on his grave.

Now we are left with a final option called an election. Unfortunately, there is no guarantee that a Republican White House, Senate and House of Representatives will actually overturn Obamacare, despite current assurances that they will. After all, we never dreamed that Chief Justice Roberts would rule the way he did either, did we?

What will this day look like upon 50 years’ reflection? Upon 100 years’ reflection? Will it have represented a rallying cry to a freedom-loving citizenry that turned back the march of socialism in our country, or will it represent the day we died as the world’s most exceptional nation in the history of mankind? I guess we’ll know by who’s graves are spat upon.

Governor Palin said it best via Twitter:

Obama lied to the American people. Again. He said it wasn’t a tax. Obama lies; freedom dies.

(Special note. I’m don’t really advocate spitting on anyone’s grave. It’s merely a metaphor.)
