Here is the monologue from today’s Roderic Deane Show. You can listen to the whole show HERE or click on the link and listen from the sidebar. (Note: I accidentally referred to Kelly Ayotte as being from Maine in my monologue. She is actually from New Hampshire. The advance notes below have been changed to reflect the correction.)
I titled this show “Secure the Damn Border”, but I could have said it a number of different way. How about “Secure the Border, Dammit!” No matter how we might want to put it, the sad reality is that Congress doesn’t seem to hear us.
There has been plenty of blame to throw around too, but the saga isn’t over. For now, there are two people in the Senate that I never thought would have abandoned their campaign promises. Marco Rubio of Florida and Kelly Ayotte of
MaineNew Hampshire were both able to secure their Senate elections by the help of the Tea Party and other constitutional conservatives. So much for standing on principle. They both voted for the Senate immigration bill, in direct conflict of their campaign promises. The Senate bill does nothing to guarantee that border security happens BEFORE any talk of a path to citizenship for illegal aliens.
I had originally planned to do this show in the hopes of it airing before the Senate voted on their immigration bill. Unfortunately, as many Americans were just beginning to learn what was in the bill and started to swamp Senate offices with complaints, Senate leader Harry Reid scheduled the vote and rushed it through. Many Senate offices have admitted to voting for the bill without even knowing what was in it, just like Obamacare.
This is not the way our system of government was supposed to work, but it’s just one example of how unrepresentative our government has become to “We, the People”. There’s a reason that the Tea Party leans to the right. It HAS to if we’re to continue to hold government accountable to our Constitutional principles. Even then, as in the case with Rubio and Ayotte, there’s no guarantee we’ll succeed in getting things working the way our Founding Fathers intended.
Our Founding Fathers would never have agreed with what’s going on in Washington these days. There’s just no way! They purposely put in place a system to prevent what is going on, assuming that Constitutional principles were followed. As Mark Levin puts it, like it or not, we are now living in a post-Constitutional America.
Think about it for a second. We have a runaway legislature, passing bills like Obamacare and immigration reform that a solid majority of Americans do not want. We have a judiciary that upends the meaning of marriage as it has existed for the entire length of human history. We have an Executive branch that rules by executive fiat, creating rules and regulations that bear the weight of law. None of this was supposed to happen under our form of government and yet here we are.
So, what do we do now?
That, my friends, is the question of our lifetimes. No matter what, it’s not going to be easy to turn things around. We have to be prepared to spend years, maybe entire lifetimes, to save our form of government from becoming what looks more and more like the world in George Orwell’s book “1984”. If you haven’t read it, I strongly suggest you do. I read it when I was a freshman in college, although the book was published in 1949. At the time it was written, it was classified as science fiction. It now looks eerily prescient. If you don’t want to read the book, a updated movie was made about it and released in 1984. A previous movie was done in 1956. I suggest you watch the 1984 version. It’s very good, if you’re not a reader. The 1956 version is available to watch on YouTube. I haven’t found a free version of the 1984 version.
The bottom line is this: you have to educate yourself and understand what is happening to our country. Like it or not, there will quickly come a time when the events unfolding in Washington will have a direct impact on your life. By the time that actual impact happens, you’re going to be pissed as hell, but it might be too late to change it. There’s a reason that our Founding Fathers preached “vigilance”. It’s what separates patriots from the rest of the population and it’s the only thing that will keep you from waking up one day and realizing that you’re now living in tyranny, unable to respond.
I strongly suggest that you embrace anyone that self-identifies as being a part of the Tea Party. They just might be your last, best hope.
